School Teaches The Basics And Beyond For All Levels Of Skating

Saco, ME-Throughout the summer the MHG Ice Centre has been offering an all ages skating school. The current session lasts until August 25th and takes place weekly on Mondays. The skating school will teach the basics and beyond for all levels of skating.

The clinics are designed to model the Ice Skating Institute’s (I.S.I.) different levels of instruction. The I.S.I. is an organization dedicated to the advancement of, and life-long participation in the sport of ice-skating. The different levels of skating range from, Tots (ages 4 & 5), Introductory (ages 6 & up with no previous experience), Pre-Alpha-Delta, Freestyle and Adults 16+. 

There will be a six-week mini session starting September 10th lasting until October 15th. A nine-week session will follow that, starting October 22nd until December 17th; both sessions will take place on Wednesday nights from 5:30 to 8:10.

Tots-

This program will teach tots ages 4 & 5 the basics needed for ice-skating. Upon completion of this program, skaters are able to continue on with the badge level SKATING Program, designed by the Ice Skating Institute (I.S.I.).

 
Introductory-

For ages 6 and up who have not received prior skating instruction, regardless of ability. Instructors will evaluate students and place them at their correct level.

 
Pre-Alpha-Delta-

This is a badge level program designed by the Ice Skating Institute. Skaters will be evaluated and tested at appropriate intervals. Upon completion of the Delta level, students may participate in a group freestyle class.

 
Freestyle 1-10-

I.S.I. membership is required of ALL Freestyle/Advanced students. This is a 10-level badge program. Any I.S.I. skater may elect to compete at his/her level at the National Competition open to people of all ages and ability.

 
Adults 16+-
Adults ages 16 and older are encouraged to enroll in this class. I.S.I. instructors are dedicated to the advancement of the recreational sport of ice-skating.
